TyG Index Calculator (Triglyceride-Glucose)

Estimate insulin resistance when you do not have a fasting insulin value.

The TyG index estimates insulin resistance using only fasting triglycerides and glucose — values almost every basic lab panel includes.

Enter your values above to see your result.

Formula

TyG = ln[(triglycerides × glucose) / 2]

How it is calculated

The TyG index combines fasting triglycerides and glucose into one number. Both rise when insulin is chronically high, so TyG works as a stand-in for insulin resistance.

It is validated as a predictor of type 2 diabetes, fatty liver and cardiovascular disease, including Latin American cohorts.

Frequently asked questions

TyG or HOMA-IR?

HOMA-IR is more direct if you have fasting insulin. TyG is excellent with a routine triglycerides + glucose panel.
